Sports recap: Trojans face highs and lows

The girls golf team is currently undefeated at 8-0. Previously, the team showed out at St. Patrick’s Invitational, placing third out of 18 teams. Continuing their victorious streak, they won last week in their game against Piedmont at Lake Chabot Golf Course. One notable player included Mikhaela Macabeo, who placed first in the match against Piedmont.

Additionally, the freshman boys cross country team has achieved a remarkable win. Recently, at the Ram Invitational, the boys placed first out of 44 teams, a very impressive feat.  On top of that, the girls varsity cross country team also placed first grabbing another win like at the Viking Invitational a few weeks ago.

Currently, girls water polo is 8-1. Recently, they took third place in the Encinal tournament this past weekend. The girls team is performing amazingly and will hopefully continue winning their matches. On the other hand, the boys team also won at Encinal with a score of 20-5, and currently in the season, they are 7-4, holding down a third-place position in the league.

All of these teams are currently racking up wins; however, some teams are facing a lot of challenges currently. Flag football has been having a tough week despite their previous wins. They recently lost to Alameda and Berkeley, bringing their record to 10-5.

“My teammates help me become a better player. The confidence I get after a good play helps motivate me,” commented athlete Arabella Pey. Pey is a junior and in the first two games she started both ways. On offense she had 127 receiving yards and 38 rushing yards. Along with this she had three touchdowns. In defense she has one interception and defended three passes. Pey is a strong player on the field and hopes to compete with her team all the way to NCS.

This week, the girls volleyball team split the week with a loss against O’Dowd and a win over Encinal. This brings their overall record to 13-7. Also facing some tough losses is the football team. JV and varsity football both lost against James Logan this past weekend. The football team has been struggling this season, encountering more losses than wins. However, on a more positive note, freshman football is currently undefeated and 4-0.

I’m so proud of all of our sports teams! Through wins and even losses it’s clear that all our players are putting their best foot forward and that there’s only more greatness ahead of everyone.

The golf photo is great! Must’ve be quite difficult to capture both the player and ball in frame when driving.

  • It’s great that most of our teams have been winning so far this season. It shows how much effort everyone is putting in and trying to do their best.
