Castro Valley High School’s award-winning student newspaper. We are born to seek the truth!

About us

Mission statement
Students in Castro Valley High School’s journalism class publish news to the campus and community through The Olympian newspaper, website and social media pages. The Olympian is a limited public forum which strives to uphold professional journalistic standards while informing readers about relevant events and issues. Truth is our most important value.

Comments and letters

We invite readers to comment and write letters about our content. Staff members review all submissions prior to publication. Comments and letters should concern Olympian content. We reserve the right to reject comments and letters which encourage unlawful acts or are untruthful, libelous, obscene, off-topic, hateful, or personal attacks.

We encourage those submitting comments to use their real names.

We require those writing letters to sign their real names, which we will verify. Letters up to 200 words long can be sent to mjohanson@cv.k12.ca.us.

Editorials

Unsigned editorials in our opinion section reflect the majority view of our staff on topics of concern to our campus and community.

Ethics

We support and abide by the Society of Professional Journalists Code of Ethics. That means we strive to seek truth and report it, minimize harm, act independently, and be accountable and transparent. We avoid using anonymous sources. We use artificial intelligence as a research tool but do not use AI to produce articles or other content.

Corrections

The Olympian tries to avoid errors and corrects them when they occur.
