Yoga brings mindfulness and movement to CVHS
The room is lined up with yoga mats and equipment. At the center leads an instructor, quietly guiding and demonstrating everyone on the steps of each movement. This room is a place for mindfulness and transformation.
Yoga classes are currently being offered to CVHS staff and students in F-10. This occurred due to a partnership made between the Wellness Center and Prana Yoga + Wellbeing. The student classes are held every Monday from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m.; the staff classes are held every Thursday from 4:15 to 5:15 p.m.
“I hope students let go of certain expectations—that yoga in the body is supposed to look a certain way,” said Sarah Barnes, the instructor from Prana Yoga + Well-being.
In this environment, Sarah encourages students to let go of expectations and simply feel like whatever they’re doing is enough, regardless of outside perception. She makes this room a safe place to simply move with the flow of your body rather than putting unnecessary pressure to keep up on yourself.
Furthermore, anyone can come to this class and learn, regardless if you have a background in yoga or are athletic. Here, this yoga program offers a place to release anxiety and relax all while reconnecting with yourself.
Sophomore Jophy Su describes her personal experiences with the yoga classes.
“After participating in yoga, I realized the calm sensation I felt right after the session ended. I was able to escape my worries and forget things for a bit. I would recommend yoga classes to others as it provides a good debrief of your situation,” said Su.
In a school setting where academic pressure can be intense and stress can pile up, this yoga class offers a very good tool for both students and CVHS staff to rewind.
Overall, everyone who attended all had positive things to say about the yoga class and would recommend it to others. The yoga classes provide a safe and calming environment for those who wish to attend and leave you refreshed and more at ease in your body.
