Tennis team faces tough loss on Sept. 22
CVHS girls tennis team faced tough competition this season at the Sept. 22 match against Las Lomas, but ultimately fell short. Despite the loss, the Trojans continue to hold an outstanding record of 4-3.
With this year’s fresh new lineup and many athletes stepping into the varsity role, coach Bill Mc Intyre praised the team’s efforts.
“We went with a lineup that was loaded with players that are new to the team. They fought hard and made every point count. They contended in every match. The experience that these players gained will help the team win in the second half of the season,” said Mc Intyre.
The afternoon featured many strong performances across singles and double games with several outstanding highlights, including Isabella Huskic Cao sweeping both sets 6-0, while Kaylee Cheng came on top in singles, winning 6-3 back-to-back.
In doubles, the pairing of Ellysandera Ly and Madisen Lee delivered a flawless victory, winning 6-4 and 6-1 in both sets. Meanwhile, Tapasya Tamang and Nicole Levano fought a close match that went into overtime, with both sets falling short 5-7.
“It was a super close game that went overtime in both sets. Even though it ended in a loss, I had a great time playing, and it was a fun match that I would play again!” commented Tamang.
In addition to the main lineup, several Trojans took on extra matches to gain more competitive experience. These bonus games gave great, valuable practice for future matches. “It felt good to get extra playing time, it gave me a chance to practice and helped me feel more prepared for the rest of the season,” said Ella Chin, a returning player
Although the Trojans didn’t win overall, the experience and growth they got will help them win and come back stronger later in the season.
The girls varsity team looks forward to their next game on Oct. 16 against Piedmont.
