Swim teams show out at WACC

The CVHS swim teams made a big splash at the WACC Championships at Chabot College on May 2. Overall, the girls team placed second place and the boys team placed third place.

Standout sophomore Kahnh Seaton led the charge for the girls, winning first place in the 50 free women’s at 23.34 seconds and the 100 free women’s at 51.64 seconds. Bathing in the waters of success, Seaton’s stellar performance was instrumental in helping the team climb the ranks.

“I feel accomplished to make the A final at States after a rough season last year. I learned to trust my training,” said Seaton.

On the boys’ side, Simon Li, a senior, broke three records, two in the 100 free with a time of 45.75 seconds and one in the 100 back with a time of 50.81 seconds.

“I think that all these records being broken this year is just reflecting our goals from last year and following through with it. My entire relay stepped up and we achieved our goals of breaking the 200 yard medley relay and 200 yard freestyle relay records from 10+ years ago,” said Li.

The WACC Championships brought together some of the region’s most talented swimmers. Despite tough competition, CVHS proved they are a force to be reckoned with in the water.

“Even though we came in second, we put up a good fight, a bunch of swimmers had personal bests, set records, and 14 went on to NCS,” said swim coach Jacqueline Stone.

As the season wraps up, the team’s strong showing at the WACC highlights a bright future, with underclassmen already washing away the competition. With continued hard work and determination, the CVHS swim team is kicking towards even greater achievements.
