Trojans cap off historic season with title
This year, the Castro Valley Trojans boys varsity baseball team capped off their historic season with a championship. The Trojans finished their regular season with a record of 20-5 overall and and went 9-1 in the WACC. It is their first 20-win season in over 20 years.
The Trojans faced off against Bishop O’Dowd on May 12. It was a close game, but the Trojans escaped with the win with a score of 4-3. That win sent the Trojans to the championship, where they played Encinal for the league title on May 15.
The Trojans dominated Encinal, finishing with a score of 6-2. The Trojans didn’t win the game with any big home runs, but with RBIs and runs for each other. Riley Eagan and Anthony Mares led the way with two RBIs each. Mares also led the way in hits, getting in two. There was no huge play by one player; instead just team success together.
“We have a really good close team of guys, and we’ve really worked hard to make it this far. We have the best pitching and the best offense in the league by far,” said pitcher Scott Baldwin, speaking before the game.
Owen Seidel was the lead pitcher in the game. He got seven strikeouts in the game and only gave up two runs and four hits. Braden Spade was the closer for the game, not allowing a single run or hit scored and finishing with the game-winning strikeout.
This is most likely a season that will be remembered for years to come, with other teams trying to live up to this team’s mantle.
