Cross country boys puts their best feet forward

The boys cross country team ended the race on Sept. 19 at Canyon Middle School with one Castro Valley runner in first. The Trojans wrapped up the day with a win and two losses, beating Tennyson with a perfect score of 15 points, losing to Piedmont 32-24, and losing to Berkeley 36-25. Though not the best, it was the best dedication and effort the team put in.

“As I was running, I was pretty much dead. There was no one by me to help inspire me so I was just running to get it over with,” said varsity runner Carter Mackey, who finished first and mentioned that the race was the hardest course but not the hardest run.

Another varsity runner Pranay Gundi, who was a distance from Mackey, also agreed that the course they ran was a challenge, but maintained a steady pace making it look easy, even though running the Canyon mile twice isn’t at all easy.

“It’s a challenging course,” said Gundi.

After the race was over, Coach Dooney Jones said, “I’m very proud of how we did as a team today and I am excited for the upcoming season and how things will turn out.”
