End of the year reflections
As the final days of the 2024–2025 school year draw near, it’s a fitting time for students to reflect on the journey that brought them here. While the future remains uncertain, especially for those preparing to embark on their next chapter, the past offers lessons, memories, and hope for what lies ahead. In a recent survey gathering input from sophomores, juniors, and seniors, students shared their reflections, some of which may inspire others navigating their paths.
According to an Olympian survey, 34.1% of respondents viewed the year as relatively positive, describing it as both fun and fulfilling. Many acknowledged facing challenges, especially with the increasing academic demands and external pressures like college applications.
“I think this school year was both wonderful and stressful. As seniors, we had to go through college apps, decision day, and other things. But at the same time, it was wonderful to spend time with many of our peers, because it may be our last year with them,”said departing senior Matthew Aguas.
“It was stressful as it was my junior year; however, very exciting and fun,” said Maggie Lei Chong, a current junior.
The year was also marked by countless memorable moments—ones that will likely stay with students long after the last bell rings. Events like prom and homecoming were highlights for many.
“The most memorable moments for me this year were HOCO and prom,” senior Ken Galanida recalled.
Students also pointed to more personal experiences, such as concerts, sports, and time spent with friends. “School is more enjoyable with good company,” said rising senior Fanny Wang. “So prom, anything I did with my sister and friends.”
Beyond the memories, the year brought growth and learning, both academic and personal. Many students noted that they didn’t just gain knowledge from textbooks, but also developed essential life skills, including time management, resilience, and stronger social awareness.
Still, reflection isn’t just about looking back; it’s about preparing to move forward. Many students expressed what they’ll miss—from friends and teachers to a sense of freedom.
Now, it’s time to turn toward the future. For seniors, that means stepping into adult life and new environments. For juniors, the college application process and preparation for the future lie just ahead. And for underclassmen, another school year awaits—another chance to learn, grow, and make memories.
Reflection helps us understand where we’ve been—and where we’re going. Senior Adiyaan Guha captures that spirit of anticipation best, looking forward to “a whole new chapter in life.”
