Trojan swim team finishes strong at NCS tournament

The Trojan swimmers finished their season strong in the NCS tournament that took place on April 17-18 at Concord Community Pool. Twenty of the dedicated Trojan swimmers qualified to compete for CVHS in what is considered one of the most competitive swim meets in America.

They swam their hardest against athletes from 34 schools in the North Coast Section, and the boys persevered to swim their way into thirteenth place with 76 points.

Sophomore Carson Sand took sixth place overall in the 100 meter breaststroke with a time of 56.99 seconds that broke the league record. Sand also made it into the finals in the 200 meter individual medley to finish in fourteenth place.

The  boys 400 meter freestyle relay finished in eighth place overall, with another record breaking time of 3:11.90. Also qualifying for finals were the boys medley relay, which took tenth, and the boys 200 meter freestyle relay, which placed eleventh.

“It’s a huge feat just to qualify for NCS, let alone scoring points in the finals,” said coach Brian Berry. “We have some incredibly talented swimmers on our roster.”

Junior Victor Deng also made it to the finals in the 50 meter freestyle, as well as junior Miles Teague in the 100 meter freestyle and senior Bronson Brown in the 100 meter butterfly.

Sophomores Lucianna Balica and Laura Macchiavello and juniors Kate Miller and Lauren Wirdzek qualified for NCS in the 400 meter freestyle relay, and with a time of 3:39.68, they came less than a second away from qualifying for finals.

“Next year I know we’re going to come back stronger and faster than before,” said Macchiavello. “ I am so proud of my team and overall it was an incredibly fun season!”
