CVHS softball takes league title

The CVHS varsity softball team successfully won the WACC, Foothill Division.

“Practices were fast, you fixed your corrections and moved on,” said junior Summer Randez who was bumped from JV to varsity for the last few games.

The girls hit hard as they beat Bishop O’Dowd Dragons, 10-0, in a playoff game. They then went on to defeat the Alameda High School Hornets, 3-2, who were the Trojans’ strongest competition, in the championship playoff game.

“We’re all really strong and work together,” said junior Allison Decker.

The team placed fourth in the North Coast Section (NCS) playoffs as they suffered a 6-5 loss to the Freedom Falcons of Oakley in the second round.

“The games were intense yet fun because our team is like a family,” said Randez.

Coach Marie Gray said the team made a good showing in the new WACC, which replaced the old Hayward Area Athletic League.

“The talent levels were the same, which is a shame because I would have liked to seen more competition,” said coach Marie Gray.
