Trojans sting Hornets on soccer field

The CVHS varsity girls soccer team won their game against Alameda, 2-0, on Jan. 28. The two goals were scored by Erikka Flores, with an assist from Amani Williams, and Hannah Sommerhalter.

There were relatively few calls in this game (a few fouls on both sides and one or two offside calls), but there was one bigger one; one of the girls from the other team knocked down a CVHS player and was shown a yellow card. Thankfully, there were no other incidents.

CVHS played well, and rarely did the goalie have to step in to stop a ball. Both sides kept up the pressure, keeping the ball moving across the field constantly. CVHS attempted several good crosses for a shot on goal, but no one could get there fast enough to make the kick.

Ea Trafton-Hancock, a member of the team, spoke about the game: “I feel like we played pretty good against Alameda, we got thrown off in the beginning with them playing a different formation than we are used to, but we managed to overcome that and win 2-0!”

Despite Alameda playing a different formation than what the team had practiced for, the Trojans were able to adapt on their feet for a clean win.
