Senior spotlight showcases Trojan talent
The boys basketball team lost 64-46 at their final game of the season. On Friday, Feb. 13, the Trojans got a chance to celebrate the ups and downs of their season with the support of their family and friends as they played against Piedmont High School for their senior night game.
The night started with electric energy as the seats were filled with students and parents eager to show their support. Before the game even began, CVHS had a chance to honor its senior players. This season, the team had six seniors, and applause filled the gym as each took a turn being recognized for their hard work. Senior Desmond Sicat even took a moment to speak, expressing how grateful he was for the support of his teammates and the sense of community the team has brought him.
“I think we are successful because of our drive and determination and the support of our fellow teammates and coaches,” commented senior Zander Harris.
After the seniors finished celebrating with their family and friends the game officially commenced. The first period started off strong with CVHS making the first shot of the game and exciting the energy in the room. Afterwards CVHS and Piedmont took turns shooting shots. An exciting moment during this period was when Harris leaped towards the basket dunking a perfect shot. Notable mention to Sicat who made multiple shots during the first period. The Trojans kept strong on their defense but Piedmont pushed forward and had more points by the end of the first period.
During the second period some very strong players were Krishawn McGee and Maadhesh Senthil. Both of these players made multiple shots and worked towards evening the score against Piedmont. The boys started the second period losing by half the amount of points. However through renewed efforts the score was 19-18 with three minutes left of the second period. Eventually Piedmont caught up but Trojans ended the second period 25-26 with a lot of potential for a recovery.
The third period started with that same back and forth between the two teams. However unfortunately for the Trojans as they continued playing the gap in points only continued to grow. The Trojans ended the third period 37-48.
As they entered the fourth period the Trojans kept pushing despite the gap in points. Sicat and Harris executed some flawless passes and the audience cheered loudly for their fellow trojans. Unfortunately for the Trojans with less than a minute left on the clock the score was 46-62. Although a win was no longer possible the Trojans kept it pushing until the timer ran out. They did their best making sure Piedmont got no more shots in. Despite the loss the Trojans played with determination and grit, finishing their last match alongside the support of their fellow students and family.
“The most memorable moment was walking out with my family,” commented Senthil who scored 10 points during the game.
