Trojans conquer Mt. Eden in boys varsity soccer
The Trojans boys varsity soccer team took home the victory 2-1 against Mt. Eden High School on Jan. 27 at Trojan Stadium. The team managed to pull ahead in the second half after being tied 1-1. The Trojans played a very fast-paced and high energy game with many missed and blocked shots on goal.
The first goal would be scored by Xavier Thompson. After many corner kick attempts he was able to deal the final touch that sent the ball into the goal. To his aid were the many throw-ins performed by the man of the match Andres Escoto. Escoto was a very crucial supporting pillar of this match and helped secure his team the win with his passing and overall contributions.
The Trojans’ win helped to boost their position in the league standings and should be considered a turnaround from their on the road loss, making their record 9-6-2 (wins, losses, and ties).
Pushing into the second half with the game being tied, tensions were rising and various yellow cards began going out onto both Monarch and Trojans players for their physical actions as well as their verbal ones.
“It was a good win over a team that before we played only had one loss, despite not playing our cleanest soccer and with one of our players receiving a yellow card,” said Logan Wong when asked about his thoughts on the game.
Thanks to more impressive teamwork, coordination, and some corner kicks, the Trojans would end up scoring their second goal thanks to number 10, Ali Jandro El-Sheikh. El-Sheikh scored in a very similar way Thompson did in the first half. He gave a good pass to him and a final touch from inside the goal area. The Trojans, with help of the game’s goalkeeper Shae Marten, would shut down all of Mt. Eden’s attempts and hold down their win until the very end.
