Trojans’ unfortunate defeat against Berkeley

The CVHS Trojans baseball team suffered an extra innings defeat to the Berkeley Yellow Jackets, 5-4, on April 12.  The Trojans started the game by allowing a run after four walks in the first before closing the last two outs with runners on the corners. After an uneventful inning, the Trojan came back in the bottom of the second to score a game-tying run.

The top of the third was an unfortunate two-run inning for the Yellow Jackets that would give them a lead. Trojans starting pitcher David Colon would recover from control issues early in the game only allowing one walk between the third and the sixth innings compared to the four runs between the first and the third.

The Trojans would score once in the bottom of the third to bring the deficit back down to one before another score by the Yellow Jackets in the fifth seemed to put the game out of reach for the Trojans. As the sixth inning rolled in, the demoralized fans seemed to accept the first home loss of the season, but the Trojans wouldn’t as they scored two runs in the sixth, tying the game and bringing the Trojans the momentum to try to walk the game off in the 7th.

The rally started with a Michael Olsen walk, followed by two more runners getting on base before an unfortunate ground out with the bases loaded by Owen Seidel.

The demoralized Trojans allowed a run in the top of the eighth and couldn’t get a run in the bottom, ending the game with the leadoff hitter striking out and putting on damper on a previously undefeated home record. Hopefully, the Trojans can take the defeat and learn from it, to some extent you could call it bad luck to not walk the game off in the seventh but in baseball you never really know what’s coming.
