On-campus PSAT cancelled

The PSAT 10/11 test scheduled for Jan. 25 has been cancelled, as announced by CVHS. Only in-person PSAT options are offered by the College Board.

There may be some schools still taking the PSAT, although it is most likely that schools still in distance learning will not be offering PSATs for students.

“It is highly unlikely that any schools in our area are offering an in-person PSAT and it is up to each school if they were to allow students from other schools to test,” said college and career counselor Allison Zuckerbrow.

There will be other free options available for SAT or ACT practice if students need practice. It is recommended that all students planning on taking the SAT or ACT to take a free practice test for both to see which is more appropriate for them.

Through the College Board and ACT websites, students can prepare for the actual exams. The links to these websites are on the College and Career websites: (https://sites.google.com/cv.k12.ca.us/cvhs-college-career-center/college-info/testing).

“Khan Academy is also an option for SAT practice,” said Assistant Principal Tracy Fields. (https://www.khanacademy.org/test-prep/sat)

While this year there will be no PSAT offered at CVHS, students can still apply for the National Merit Scholarship that is normally funneled through the PSAT administration.

“Information will be going out to juniors about how to apply for the National Merit Scholarship without having taken the PSAT,” informed Zuckerbrow. “There is an alternative entry to the scholarship program which will involve an online form to be submitted this spring and the student to take an SAT between August 2020 and June 2021.”
