CSF members give back to the community

Groups of high-achieving students spend their free time helping others in need. Whether they’re helping with running an elementary school event, cleaning up a classroom after school, donating to food/toy drives, tutoring kids, volunteering at shelters, or supporting foundations, this group of virtuous students selflessly devote their time to serve the community.

California Scholarship Federation (CSF) club allows these students to do the charity work their heart desires. CSF is a nonprofit organization that urges students to excel in academics, and serve the community. It provides a handful of community service opportunities each week by organizing volunteer projects that members can participate in to accumulate volunteer hours. Not only do they count hours from their own events, but they also count outside hours as well–a small aspect of CSF that demonstrates their genuine passion of helping others in need.

Additionally, CSF provides multiple awards and scholarship opportunities for eligible senior members. The phrase, “Scholarship for Service” is a constant reminder to CSF members that giving back to the community, expanding leadership skills, and maintaining academic excellence is a key aspect of what the club stands for, and will recognized in students.

“Not only do we reach out to our local elementary schools and the Castro Valley Chamber of Commerce, we are in communication with other Bay Area organizations that may need volunteer support. Our members are very involved and eager to participate in various opportunities, and their leadership extends beyond the classroom and walls of CVHS,” said CSF advisor Alma De La Rosa.

CSF’s most recent events include Family Harvest day at Redwood, Dick Collins Fire Trails, and CVE Autumn Moon Festival. Volunteers helped set up, supervised, gave assistance to those in need, and made each event the best it could be.

“I’ve found that volunteering can make amazing experiences where people can connect. I believe that volunteering can really help others bond and strengthen our community while helping others,” said CSF President Olivia Nguyen.

In its fundamental nature, CSF seeks a greater community that can prosper with the service of generous, high achieving students. They hope to reward these students with honors that will give back to them for the service they provided for the community.
