CVHS showcases its diverse cultures during Multicultural Night

CVHS’s annual Multicultural Night returned on March 7, bringing the community together for a lively and colorful celebration of cultural heritage, identity, and tradition. Held in the gymnasium, the event was a feast for the senses, filled with the tantalizing aromas of home-cooked food, the rhythmic beats of music from around the world, and the warmth of a diverse community coming together under one roof.

Hosted by the school’s various cultural clubs, the event attracted hundreds of students, families, teachers, and community members. Attendees wandered through decorated booths, each offering a glimpse into the customs, history, and flavors of different cultures. From handmade crafts to historical exhibits, the night provided an immersive experience showcasing the rich diversity of the CVHS community.

“It’s more than just an event, it’s a chance to see and appreciate the cultures of our classmates in a way that textbooks can’t teach,” said junior Daniel Nguyen, who helped organize the Vietnamese cultural booth.

One of the highlights of the evening was the stage performances, where students proudly shared their heritage through dance, music, and spoken word. Performers donned traditional attire representing regions from East Asia, Latin America, the Middle East, Africa, Eastern Europe, and beyond.

A mesmerizing Indian classical dance performance by the Indian Culture Club drew cheers from the audience, while the Filipino Culture Club’s jumping game had people quickly joining in.

Senior Naomi Melak, president of the Black Student Union and lead organizer of the event, described the night as “a living mosaic of where we come from and how we come together.”

Food was another major highlight, with families and local restaurants contributing their cultural dishes. Attendees sampled everything from Filipino lumpia to Ethiopian tea and Middle Eastern hummus to French crêpes.

“Food is such a big part of our identity, and sharing it with others makes me feel proud,” said senior Kilian Charron, who made almost 600 crêpes for the cultural event.

Multicultural Night was more than just an event for many students; it was an opportunity to celebrate who they are and learn about others in a welcoming space.

“It reminds us that no matter where we come from, we all have stories worth sharing,” said senior Luis Romero.

As the night concluded, the echoes of music and laughter lingered, a testament to the vibrant, interconnected world that CVHS represents.

An exciting recap of the event, and the quotes were nice in revealing who some of the organizers were. It sounded pretty fun, and I would’ve liked to try some the food there.
