STEAM for Youth give back to the community
The school club STEAM for Youth, focuses on community service and uplifting students’ interest in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math). Members volunteer for multiple causes, and fundraise while facilitating STEAM workshops to younger students throughout the school year.
“I think the best part about the club is hosting STEAM workshops for younger students. Last year, we made hurricane proof houses with elementary and middle school students. It was really fun to see the kids engage in the activities and help them out,” said club President Lauren Mosier. She formed this club due to her passion about fostering younger kids’ interests in the STEAM education.
There were multiple enjoyable volunteering events that took place last year which combined community service hours with exciting activities such as making perler bead video game controllers to fundraise, and volunteering for Marshall Elementary’s school dance.
“It’s a fun club to hang out with friends while also contributing to the community in some way, and it’s enjoyable for both sides,” said junior Benjamin Alfonso as he enjoys his time participating.
The first volunteering opportunity of this 2024-2025 school year was Saturday Sept. 21, with helping cleaning up the CV creek and trail. A recent volunteering opportunity that the club held was Oct.14 with SOS Meals on Wheels kitchen helping with food distribution.
“I joined the club because it sounded amusing with good opportunities for people to get volunteering hours and also allow kids to have fun with events, we have a lot of lively events coming up soon!” said Winnie Lee. As STEAM For Youth’s treasurer, she believes it’s an interesting experience with the club as she gets to go to events with friends.
Club members agree that it has been a great experience as it is pleasant and rewarding, as well as benefiting for college applications, as it helps with communication, collaboration, and planning skills with volunteering hours. It also builds friendships and memories along the way.

I love how this article highlights all the fun and meaningful activities the STEAM for Youth club is doing. The workshops sound like such a blast, especially making hurricane-proof houses! It’s so cool to see how the club is not just about learning but also about giving back to the community. The quotes from the members really bring the experience to life—they sound like they’re having a great time together! I think it’s awesome how this club helps with skills that look great on college applications, too. Great job capturing the spirit of the club!
