“Rotten Mango” meets murder: a mesmerizing interview

Stephanie Soo sat there fearless, holding a binder full of notes, and sat with a killer in that quiet room. Soo, the host of “Rotten Mango” podcast takes a new twist with her true crime podcast.

On episode 454 of her podcast, she meets the killer in person and personally interviews him. Upon seeing this new episode, I was afraid Soo was crossing a line—that this would be a controversial episode.

For one, meeting directly with a killer and interviewing him for your true crime podcast could be very disrespectful towards the victim and their family. However, this podcast was completely out of my expectations.

This podcast was more than just a quick money-grabbing video. This told the tale of not just a killer, but of a broken human who killed.

We learn about Clark Frederick’s tale of trauma, vengeance, and redemption, and how that shaped him.

Throughout the podcast, Soo was extremely respectful; she had clearly done her research on the case. She had a massive binder full of notes and frequently quoted Clark Frederick’s book while promoting it.

She didn’t push him on any questions, push any misinformation, and let Frederick share as much as he pleased. Soo showcased a survivor on her platform whose story could change many other people’s perspectives and bring awareness to abuse and its long-term consequences.

Overall, this episode earned me a lot of respect for Soo, especially given the amount of effort she put into being as respectful as possible. It was a dark and heavy episode, so be warned, but it was very informative and shed a lot of light on issues.

Everyone could benefit from listening to Soo’s podcast, and you won’t just be benefiting yourself, but the non-profit organizations that Rotten Mango donates to in order to support victims.

However, this podcast has heavy themes such as violence, child sexual abuse, and rape, which isn’t recommended for younger audiences. If you enjoy podcasts, true crime, or psychology, this would be a good watch for you.
