Trojans turn two to clinch softball win

Fighting against the wind, the CVHS varsity softball team slayed the Bishop O’Dowd Dragons, 5-1.

The Trojans rematched the Dragons on April 11 after creaming O’Dowd 13-3 on April 2. Coming out of a small slump, the Trojans were ready for this battle.

After the top of the first inning, the Dragons were up by one. In the bottom of the first, Kyndal Todd’s at bat got her to first base and brought home Sophia Siu from second base. The Trojans wouldn’t let the Dragons keep the lead for long.

In the third inning, the Trojans had two batters on base and they were both brought in by Todd.

In the bottom of the fourth, Kaylee Poulos was up to bat. She hit the ball out of the park, and leisurely rounded the bases and made a home run for the Trojans. Her teammates met her at home base to rally around her, celebrating her hit.

“Coming out of a slump, I really needed that hit,” Poulos shared.

“I was so happy for Kaylee—to see her nice and relaxed, to see her get that—it was well deserved,” celebrated coach Nicole Manley.

The game ended with the top of the seventh, Trojans working together to get the last Dragon out. With bases loaded and less than two outs, this was the play. The ball went straight to second base, and shortstop Sophia Siu threw the linedrive to Todd who got the batter out. Siu’s double play confirmed the Trojan victory of 5-1.

“It was a really good team win—everyone was working together as a team, infield got a lot of action and they stayed relaxed and made some plays look easy when they really weren’t. And then offense, we were all hitting,” Manley recalled. “Overall, it was a great team win.”

  • Love watching and hearing about the greatness of the softball team. Way to go Kaylee! Love seeing her play all the time and definitely fun to see her when she steps up to the plate. Big congrats to Kyndal Todd always. My favorite to see play and her bat and skills on the field will be unmatched always.

  • Great job Kaylee, It has always been a pleasure to see her play, and being able to see this homerun in person was truly inspiring. She has always been a great team player and been able to have some clutch plays or at bats to help her team win or get them up.

  • way to to Kaylee!! always love to see you play
