Dodgeball tournament filled with glory, heartbreak, and controversy

Dodge, dive and throw! The spring dodgeball tournament thrilled CVHS. Sixteen teams competed for the sacred Golden Plunger. A tournament filled with glory, upsets, bad calls, and intense moments did not fail to entertain.

Although the tournament was filled with blown and controversial officiating, the basketball team emerged victorious over Mickey Mao, who put up a great fight late in the tournament. Mickey Mao player, Samuel Wu, took on the opposing team solo and managed to survive the pressure for nearly ten minutes before the basketball team finally delivered the winning throw.

“We are the greatest dodgeball team ever assembled,” said the basketball team captain Jag Mishra.

However, Mickey Mao felt like the game was not fair and that they were cheated out of the win.

“It’s not fair. When other people got hit in the head, there was never anything done about it and now they bring back a player? They also got hit like three times, even though we got hit like twice too,” said Mickey Mao player Aldan Wong.

Not to be overshadowed by the finals, many other teams put up a good fight, such as Taste the Rainbow. This team was a big underdog in this tournament, taking down a championship contending team in the first round thanks to the incredible performance from Nolan Barnes and Caleb Coffelt.

“That was insane. It feels great to have taken down one of the best teams in this competition. We came up a little short of the championship, but we are proud of what we accomplished,” said junior Ethan Tekawa-Pon.

  • Watching the dodge ball tournement live was so fun. Watching all the upsets and sam almost clutching up for the team was very entertaining . They were some controversal calls but its part of the game as almost all games will have controversal calls.

I was in the dodgeball tournament at school, and I’d say it was pretty fun. It felt like I was back in elementary school playing dodgeball in P.E. again. Even though it wasn’t perfect, such as missed calls, I still really enjoyed it and will probably do it next year.

  • the dodgeball tournament was very interesting and it seemed fun. i saw players having fun and doing their own thing.

  • My friends and I attended the first dodgeball tournament to watch one one of my friends’ boyfriend participate in the very first match. He may have gotten out but he was the very last one on his team left which made it super fun to watch! At first we thought it would be boring but within a minute we were cheering and clapping with everyone else. I wasn’t at all of them but I did see some and I do agree that there was some missed calls but overall it was a fun experience and I’m glad that our school does something like this when most other schools don’t. I feel like it really brings the school community together and encourages friendly competition.

It is so fun that our school does dodgeball tournaments and it is definitely not something you see at other schools. Even if you don’t play it is exciting to watch the competition and watch each team try their best to win. The adrenaline and the whole atmosphere are amazing during the dodgeball tournament week.

  • I think that these dodgeball tournaments are fun to watch and give students something to do at lunch rather than just sitting doing nothing. I also think that our school should continue to do them and maybe even more often. But my one complaint is that I don’t understand why the last tournament took place during the week of tryouts for almost all spring sports teams. Some of us would’ve actually liked to participate but couldn’t because we don’t want to throw our arms out. Maybe next time just take that into consideration so everyone can actually compete.

I think it’s amazing that our high school does dodgeball tournaments as it’s unique and from what I’ve heard very entertaining. Dodgeball is also a sport that almost anyone can do and is not too hard to understand, however, there will always be disagreements when it comes to a competition, but in the end, everyone had fun and that was the point of it to begin with. Friendly competition in order to build school character.

The dodgeball tournaments were really fun and entertaining to watch, and many teams did put up a good fight. I do feel like some teams were cheated though, as there were some calls that may not have been seen by the officials.

The dodgeball tournament was indeed very interesting but however, I agree that there was some controversial hits throughout the tournament. Like at the end of the championship, there was a few hits on some people that wasn’t called out for which was very interesting. However, the whole tournament was very exciting and energy filled event. There should be more tournaments like these to watch all year long.

My friends and I attended the dodgeball tournament and it was very exciting. The energy was very high and all teams there were very competitive towards each other which lit the room. The entertainment was very high and there should be more dodge ball tournaments more often.
