Castro Valley United Against Hate March and Poetry Slam coming up

The Castro Valley United Against Hate March and Poetry Slam are coming soon.

The march will be on Thursday, Nov. 15. You can join everyone at the Castro Valley Library where community members will begin the walk. The march will proceed down Castro Valley Boulevard, and finish at the Jenny Lin memorial on Grove Way. The kick off will begin at 6 p.m and the march will begin at 6:45 p.m.

You can get involved in the march by going to the library and marching with your community. To the march, you should bring you spirit and print out “Castro Valley Stands United Against Hate” posters on their website.

The poetry slam will be on Wednesday, Nov. 14. The poetry slam is 6-8 p.m. at Smalltown Society at 22222 Redwoood Road, beside Trader Joe’s. Admission is free.

To get involved with the poetry slam, you can support the performers by listening to their poetry, or you can get creative and write your own poetry to share. The slam is open and writing and sharing your poems are encouraged.

The theme of the poetry slam is time you overcame a hardship or hate. You can send in your art, poems, songs, or videos to castrovalleyunitypoetryslam@gmail.com. The deadline is Tuesday, Oct. 30 to send in your own work. ‘

“The Castro Valley Community Alliance was formed in 2017 to advocate for inclusion and compassion and support our evolving and diverse community,” said  Aimee Cayere, CVUSD’s executive assistant to the superintendent.

Last year, the Castro Valley Community Alliance did other activities, such as the Social Justice Film Series, Season of Service, Period of Peace, and others. There will be more of these films shown throughout the school year.
