Auto shop is an automatic hit

IMG_20150116_111710Have you ever wanted to learn about what makes your car engine work? Well if you do, I would highly recommend taking auto shop taught by none other than Darren Rees. In the class you learn a variety of things, from checking a car’s fluids to changing a tire and operating a lift. The best thing by far, though, is when Rees teaches the class how to take apart an engine and put it back together.

This lab allows you to get your hands dirty or greasy and you get to actually see how each part works. Everyone in the class enjoyed this lab.

“I had a good time and it wasn’t as hard as I thought. However, I wish the engine could run,” said senior Stewart Maxwell.

As a student takes pieces of the engine off, Rees will explain how they work and what their function is on a car engine. For example, the crankshaft of a car allows the pistons to move, which you need in order for your engine to operate.

After our class takes apart the engines we take a test to see if we have actually learned something, which, thanks to the help of Rees, we have.

If you are interested in learning about cars, fixing cars, or you just like cars, auto shop is definitely the right class for you. Even if you’re not interested you should still take it, because what if your car breaks down and you can’t afford to fix it? Then you can use your skills that you learned from the class and fix your car yourself.
