Girls varsity volleyball takes victory after four point come back
Against the odds, the Trojans girls varsity volleyball team used their strength, energy, and above all, teamwork to beat Bishop O’Dowd 3-1 overall on Oct. 9.
The first set began with both teams trading points, however by the end, Bishop O’Dowd was able to pull ahead and barely beat CVHS 25-21.
The second and third sets were an abrupt change in momentum for Bishop O’Dowd however, as the Trojans pulled ahead and won major leads at the start of each set, beating Bishop O’Dowd in both the second and third sets, 25-10 and 25-21 respectively.
By the final set, the crowd sat tensely as the Trojans stood on the court, facing a possible loss against Bishop O’Dowd. The Dragons had a lead of 24-21. Both teams were feeling the exhaustion, but the Trojans were able to double down on their spirit and passion for the game, which pulled them through such a remarkable fourth set.
“Even when we’re behind on points, it’s important for me to keep communicating with my teammates before, during, and after the play, which helps us keep up the energy and keeps us focused,” senior Courtney Seiji said.
Teamwork is critical in playing the sport and this was only emphasized through this game’s victory.
“We can do anything when we come together, play as a team, and everybody’s doing their job,” senior Tessa Smith commented.
This applies to on and off the court. Teammates on the bench were seen standing on the sidelines shouting team cheers and truly elevating the energy on the court throughout all four sets. Parents and friends of the players were seen sitting on the bleachers, chanting, stomping, and clapping “CV” during the breaks and timeouts.
The Trojans currently hold an impressive overall record of 17-9 and stand third in the league. This win puts them in a good position to advance to the NCS championships.
