Trojans beat Highlanders in final seconds
The Trojans won in a spectacular fashion with a last-second go-ahead basket to defeat and to move ahead rival Highlanders in league standings on Jan. 29.
The game started out slow with only ten points scored by either team and no real stand out plays. Both teams would come into their own in the second quarter with CVHS scoring 16 and Piedmont scoring 17. The atmosphere would quickly showed here as many Highlanders fans would celebrate after every basket. Every three pointer seemed to build momentum for Piedmont to steal a one point lead from CVHS.
The third quarter would prove pivotal to the game with Bernard Waldon-Hoes scoring a decent amount. The Trojans would score 11 bringing them up to 39 before the fourth quarter and the Highlanders would score 9 bringing them a point shy with 38.
The entire fourth quarter seemed neck and neck. Every basket was followed by an opposing basket on and on but as we all know every game can only have one winner.
And with three seconds left a shot from the junior Waldon-Hoes a shot that he may never forget for the rest of his young life would go in bringing the final score to 50 to 49 Trojans and after a Highlanders’ timeout and eventual half court shot the score would stay 50 to 49. The Trojans would conquer their rival Highlanders in a game that no players especially Waldon-Hoes will soon forget.
