Three Trojans compete at state wrestling championship

“As soon as I walked into the arena I was amazed by how big it was, I knew everyone would be watching me,” said senior wrestler Carlia Ott. On Feb. 26, 2022, she and two other wrestlers, senior Jack Clarke and sophomore Mikayla Marquez, represented CVHS at the CIF Wrestling State Championship Meet in Bakersfield.

Reaching this level of competition is a huge accomplishment for everyone who made it and for many is the highlight of their career. Just qualifying for the tournament proves you are one of the best wrestlers around.

“I remember I cried when I won my match to qualify me for State,” said Ott. “The scale of State is so much bigger than any other wrestling tournaments I had been to.”

This tournament is the culmination of years worth of work for these athletes and although Castro Valley didn’t take any medals home, our athletes will remember this day for the rest of their lives.

I find it very fantastic that we have a few young athletes representing Castro Valley in wrestling. They were grateful to be at the big tournament and despite they did not take the medals home, they fought hard and gave it their all.
