Trojan star jumps to state title
by Martin Baez and America Morales
Our CVHS star track runner, Kennedy Jones, won a state championship in the triple jump on June 6 and is ranked third in the country for her leap of 42 feet, 5 1/4 inches. Jones is the second girl in CVHS history to win a state track and field title and the fourth student at CVHS to win the prestigious title.
Going into the event, Jones felt more confident and excited than nervous.
“I’ve trained with all the other previous people and it’s cool to follow in their footsteps to achieve what they’ve achieved,” said Jones.
Jones was excited for those who had set a personal record and was ready to do the same. With her last jump, Jones set her own personal record and won the title.
Winning state was very exciting for both Kennedy and her supporters, especially her dad Dooney Jones, the Trojans’ head coach. She was sure her dad cried although he wouldn’t admit it, she said.
Jones plans to run summer track and will attend Boston University in the fall where she will continue to do what she loves.
