Letter to the editor: “There is a thing called modesty”
Your article, “New Dress Code Infringes on Students’ Rights,” was about the strictness of the dress code at CVHS and how it is no one but the wearer’s responsibility to wear appropriate clothing to school. While I agree with your statement that clothing is a personal choice, I believe that the dress code is appropriate.
The so called “outrage” among students concerning the “strict” dress code is unjustifiable; this is simply a tantrum thrown by students who are not getting what they want. It is more than reasonable to prohibit shorts that practically show your butt, tops that let your boobs hang out, and pants that sit at the knees. The fact of the matter is, there is a thing called modesty, and it would be wise for everyone to have it to some degree.
Just because the school is telling us that certain styles of clothing can’t be worn doesn’t mean that our rights as students are being taken. The dress code is simply trying to keep every student looking respectable. If it means that some people have to go through the laborious task of wearing a belt or putting on a camisole, so be it.
