Trojans Adopt a Family this Holiday Season
As the holiday season approaches, the annual Adopt-A-Family program is beginning at CVHS starting Nov. 29 and ending on Dec. 10. This year, Castro Valley Outreach (CVO), a local non-profit organization, has adopted 12 families and set a goal of raising $5,000 for them by the end of the fundraiser.
Castro Valley Outreach has been holding fundraisers, such as the Thanksgiving food drive and Adopt-A-Family program, for the families of kids in need within CVUSD.
“Students can participate by donating money during their fourth period class, starting Nov. 29 and running through Dec 10. If every student on campus brings just two dollars we will reach our goal! At the end of the collection process the leadership class will take the donated money and purchase items for the families,” said activities director Thomas Maloney.
As Covid has impacted many jobs, many families have fallen victim to these unfortunate circumstances and are unable to provide gifts or toys for their loved ones. CVO, with its Adopt-A-Family program, is more determined than ever to make the holidays during the pandemic as stress-free for those who are struggling. Even the smallest of donations can help these families. With the unity of our fellow Trojans, the seemingly ambitious goal can easily be achieved.
“I think that we should all contribute some money to help the families during these stressful times. Especially with the pandemic, it has been tough for many families and the holidays might be stressful for them because they might not be able to buy their kids the toys that they want. The holiday seasons are supposed to be happy and I feel like our donations would really help them out,” said junior Jacky Yu.
Once more, every donation, no matter the amount, is very helpful for these families. As a reminder, collection envelopes are handed out in your fourth period class so try to contribute some money if you can!
Adopt-a-Family is a great opportunity for CVHS students to give back to their community. I hope that we raise enough money to reach our goal so that these twelve families can have the holidays that they deserve.
