Pride and Prejudice pleases its patrons
The CVHS Drama Department presented “Pride and Prejudice” in an adaptation of Jane Austen’s most famous novel about love, fragile reputations, and social expectations in 19th-century England. Opening night was March 13 with teasers throughout the day, and the show went on throughout two weekends.
After weeks of rehearsals, actors and crew members worked hard to bring the story of Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy to life on the CFA stage. From memorizing lines to finalizing costumes and building sets, the set production has required plenty of preparation from behind the scenes from both casts and combined theatre classes.
While the show stayed fairly true to the original story, some students admit the experience of performing it has been just as memorable as the play itself.
Behind the scenes, the stage crew has been just as busy. According to deck member Ella Hull, much of the set construction happened only a few days before opening week.
“The crew (including myself) just built the sets last weekend, and everyone was rushing, not to mention overworked, but at least we got it done before opening week,” Hull said.
Additionally, student director Kennedy Quick described the experience as a different but very enjoyable experience compared to being on stage herself.
“As student director this year, and an actor in previous years, the experience was very different but still really fun,” Quick said. “‘Pride and Prejudice’ is a serious play, but everyone had a good time doing it nonetheless.”
Students and staff alike enjoyed watching this classic story unfold live on the CFA stage.
