Trojans donate for a good cause

As families gather, a chilly festive season breaks through along with the Adopt-A-Family program, an effective way to give! There’s a set goal of $5,000 for the fundraiser. If every student on campus donates $2 this goal can be achieved effortlessly. Each donation contributes to the spread of holiday cheer for lesser fortunate families all around.

When the collection of donations is complete, leadership students select various gifts and presents for these families using the funding.

“As the holiday season is approaching, we appreciate all funds that are donated to Adopt-A-Family, even if it’s a dollar that will be contributed to sharing the joy of the holiday season,” said sophomore leadership student Maggie Xie.

“We really appreciate any donations even if it’s just spare change at home brought to school in order to help out any families in need that want to celebrate the holidays,” added sophomore leadership student Julian Talauta.

As mentioned, donations can be given in the form of cash, change, and even checks.

With Adopt-A-Family being a class competition, every donation counts towards a pizza party for the winning class. Though last year’s winners slammed in with $1,200, previous winning classes averaged around $1,000. Not to forget, classes that bring in about $100 get a small prize too.

“This isn’t a leadership event, in fact, it’s a schoolwide event — there wouldn’t be an event without students and staff donating a bit of money everyday to make this happen,” activities director Thomas Maloney stated. “We couldn’t do anything if the students weren’t involved in it and didn’t care about it.”

Donations are collected every fourth period between Nov. 27 and Dec. 15. The chance to donate is now.
