Marching band plays to the hearts of audience

After a long day of practicing in the blazing sun, the CVHS marching band and color guard performed for friends and family.

Every week, on Tuesday after school and all day Saturday, students rehearse in the Trojan Stadium preparing for competitions and football halftime shows. This year, the performance theme is “Ripple Effect” which is seen throughout the show’s music and visuals, and in the performers’ dispositions.

“Marching band is a really fun activity, it’s also kind of like a family. And you get to hang out with this group of people for months and you learn music together, and then you get to show it off to all your friends and your family,” shared senior and drum major, Mikella Deigert.

Freshman Kai Mogilefsky agreed: “I like just having fun and doing something as a team that looks really cool. It is fun to play in the finished product and see how far we’ve come. It’s really hard at some points, but overall it’s just something amazing put together by a lot of people.”

One week after their friends and family show, the marching band and color guard went to their first competition of the school year: “We’ve done a couple of performances before we did … our friends and family show, but it does not compare to doing it in a competitive setting. It’s completely different,” said marching band member Liam Lepkowsky.

The Irish Guard Invitational at Dublin High School on Oct. 8 resulted in second place for CVHS Color Guard.

“I really just think it’s just having to put in more work; just practic[ing] more. Everyone knows [what] they’re supposed to be doing. It’s just a matter of putting in the reps,” said color guard captain and senior Kenya Lopez. She knows Color Guard can continue to improve their enthralling performance.

Moving forward with their marching band season, CVHS will be attending competitions and continuing to play at football games.

“A lot of good work was put in today, even though we had a really short time, and I’m super proud of it,” said senior Bronson Burfield, applauding his bandmates’ hard work.
