Trojans Get Tough Loss Against Liberty

The varsity football game against Liberty High School on Sept. 20 was an exciting but ultimately tough loss.

After fighting their way through the first quarter, the Trojans came back and tied it. With a touchdown by Damon Mitchell at the end of the second quarter, the Trojans were fighting back against the solid Liberty defense. Nick Alfaro’s touchdown with six minutes left in the third quarter got the crowd back on its feet with a potential comeback win, the score tied 21-21.

The Trojans’ fight was courageous, but Liberty scored with six minutes left in the fourth quarter to clinch a 28-21 win.

When asked how his team did, senior Gabe Tramble said, “I think we played hard, but I don’t think we executed as much as we should have in conversions.”

The Trojans had an opportunity to tie the game with a scoring drive down the field, but were unable to convert a first down with Liberty’s defense shutting them down.

“They played a long, hard game,” said Liberty coach Jeff Walters of his team.  “There were a few mistakes in the third quarter, but they bounced back from it and played how they’re supposed to.”

The Trojans (1-3) had a rough start to their season, only winning once before playing against Liberty. Their courageous efforts were unable to give them more than one win, but the game against Liberty showed that they can come back from a deficit and battle hard. Despite the results of the game, their comeback in the third quarter showed how much effort the Trojans put into their play.
