Girls wrestling wrangles another win

The CVHS girls wrestling team took the victory against San Lorenzo and Arroyo High School on Jan. 14 at the Trojan gym.

Trojans won 72-12 against San Lorenzo and 60-21 against Arroyo at the dual meet. There were many forfeits due to the other teams not having a wrestler to pair against CVHS, giving Trojans a slight advantage. Either way, they still managed to sweep the Grizzlies and Knights on the Wednesday night duel.

“I think we all did really well at this duel tonight and dominated the other schools’ teams. I think everyone was very focused and we all worked together to win against Arroyo and San Lorenzo,” said Trojan wrestler Gwen Chin.

After triumphantly leaving on a recent Jan. 7 duel against Alameda High, winning 66-17, and Encinal High, winning 84-0, CVHS managed to keep pushing their way to victory. Trojans continued their winning streak on Jan. 21, winning 72-9 against Berkely, and 49-25 against San Leandro.

“I also think our hard work during this season really paid off and it showed in our performance tonight. We have been going to practice after school to keep improving our skills. And I think we have a chance of making it to the championships this year if we continue to work really hard,” Chin adds.

The girls wrestling team has been tirelessly working all season to build their strength, technique, focus, and resilience for this school year. Their successful season has shown how their effort has rewarded them, and they hope to make it to the championships once again this year after dominating the WACC league championships last February.

The CVHS girls wrestling team is hoping to continue to come out triumphant throughout the rest of the winter season.
