Students should get involved in theater

Have you ever heard about someone having a bad experience with a school play? I know I haven’t. Student run plays are good for students and will help them later in life with their confidence skills and ability to present in front of people. Most students have a great experience and are coming back for more of the community and fun that comes with a play.

“Live performance is a huge confidence booster,” CVHS theater teacher Tiffany Daily said. “The ability to stand in front of an audience and act is hugely important.” Daily is working on the school play “Radium Girls.” The play is centered around a group of women fighting a corrupt company for justice after they are put in danger by the products, and serves as a character piece and period piece about the daily and long term struggles of women in a company setting. The place where the play will be most challenging is in the form of the emotion and depth that must be delivered to the characters. The characters are facing true corruption and the actors will have to convey that meaningfully and deepfully for a great production.

“The play is difficult, as is any live performance, but something our students can definitely handle,” Daily stated.

A complex play with lots of different angles and types of characters to look at will work the brain of the students and truly get them to give their all. The theater is also a great way for students to project themselves onto their characters and really prove themselves as confident individuals with lots of talent, who are willing to be brave and act in front of their peers. The play will do wonders in not only providing a community and space for students to work together and unite, but also teach them about the past along the way through the lens of historical fiction.

The students who are drawn to the theater each year are all very different, and all come for different reasons. Some are inspired by film, others are total theater fans, and some are completely new to the picture.

“Lots of students come through recommendations by a family member or teacher, and have a great experience along the way,” Daily explained.

Theater is great for exposing young minds to the cultures of different people. They can learn all kinds of new skills, whether it be tech-based or in acting. They also are able to find an accepting new community among their peers. Through this they gain so much and grow as people. School plays are great for students and highly recommended by most people involved.
