Trojans lose a close game to Amador
The Trojans lost to Amador 2-1 in the March 10 varsity softball game. The Trojans fought well, keeping up the energy, but it wasn’t their game. The two teams were neck and neck for the first half, but a home run by the Dons in the sixth inning got them the win.
“I think the team battled and stayed in it. We don’t let ourselves get down. We just need to capitalize on opportunities when we see them,” said pitcher Alanys Robertson.
In the first inning, McKenna Charbonneau from Amador got a smashing hit that let her run all the way home. CVHS was hot on their heels, though, and also got a run with a double with junior Giselle De Casas hitting the ball into the outfield and taking second base. When freshman Zaylee Gutierrez launched the ball into the sky, it gave De Casas the chance to get back to home base. The rest of the game was exciting, with each team trying to get the better of the other and playing excellent defense.
“We need to work on hitting more than anything, putting the ball in play. Also, picking each other up afterwards and being there for our teammates,” said De Casas.
In the sixth inning, McKenna Charbonneau from Amador struck again, getting another home run. CVHS continued to fight, keeping them from scoring again for the rest of the game. Spectators agreed that while Trojans play a nice, clean protective game, they need to work on batting and base running. If they can do this, they are sure to make a fearsome opponent to anyone who stands in their way.
Softball isn’t all about winning, no matter how competitive it gets. For a lot of Trojans, this sport means community, fun, and a distraction from school and life.
Gutierrez said, “I like the energy. It’s a little different than baseball. Softball is a great way to have fun.”
