Foothill narrowly defeats CVHS badminton

In a thrilling five-set match on March 7, the CVHS boys varsity volleyball team narrowly fell to Foothill High School, with scores of 18-25, 25-23, 21-25. 29-27, and 8-15.

The Trojans demonstrated resilience throughout the match. After dropping the first set 18-25, our Trojans rallied in the second set, clapping out a 25-23 victory. Despite a setback in the third set and losing 21-25, the boys showcased their determination to secure the win for CVHS, clinching a marathon fourth set 29-27 victory. However, the Falcons managed to secure the final set 15-8, finally sealing the three-hour match.

Notable performances from the Trojans were executed by Maximillian Fruin, Hayden Holmgren, Brian Lam, and Cyrus Tang. Fruin’s sharp precision and strategy consistently challenged Foothill’s defense. Holmgren contributed greatly to the crucial points with his nearly perfect hitting accuracy and intense speed. Lam was a newcomer from the varsity boys basketball team, but his rapid development as a middle hitter is anything but unnoticed and adds a new dimension to the team’s offense.

The match is particularly significant, as CVHS had previously faced Foothill during the 2023-24 NCS playoffs, where they were defeated in three fiery sets. The recent five-set battle underscores the Trojans’ growth and tenacity in facing the challenges brought forth by other highschools over the past year.

Despite the loss, the Trojans’ performance reflects their dedication and potential for the remainder of the season. With persistent effort and focus, CVHS aims to build on this experience in order to continue striving for success in upcoming future matches.

“Our team played very tough and didn’t let up going against a team that we knew was going to be very strong,” said new coach Susan Louie.
