CVHS honors its senior wrestlers

After an explosive night, the CVHS girls varsity wrestling team came on top as the winners against Mt. Eden and Tennyson with a score of 50-13 on Jan. 15.

The Trojans celebrated senior night acknowledging the seven seniors who have contributed to this sport throughout their years at CVHS. Seniors got a chance to reminisce on their high school wrestling journey.

One of the first few matches that took place was senior Taryn Pak. Pak has been on the wrestling team for four years and is one of the team captains. Faced against her opponent she had a swift victory pinning her opponent decisively.

“The most important thing for me is to always have fun and I love the sense of community in wrestling,” commented Pak.

Afterwards, coach Sabrina Ross said a few words for each of the girls and presented them each with a basket thoughtfully prepared by their underclassmen teammates. As the seniors walked onto the stage with their families the crowd cheered out loud and several tears fell in the audience.

“Wrestling has really shown me how to work hard not only for the sport but for myself in order to achieve my goals. Everything counts in a match and you can see the effort and time you put in at practice reflected in your matches,” commented Gianna Colon, another fourth year senior on the wrestling team.

While the win was a great end to the dual there are still matches left in the season for these girls and they hope to continue winning and celebrating with their teammates.
