Girls varsity tennis team “stung” by Berkley Yellowjackets

After a rocky couple of matches this season, the girls varsity tennis team were conquered by Berkeley with a score of 0-7 on Oct. 15.

All of the matches were lost, but despite that, the girls varsity tennis team’s star player, Malia Robinson, came closest to achieving victory. Having a recent shoulder injury, Robinson has been slowly getting back to matches against other schools and taking the position of 1st Singles. In spite of her shoulder, she performed the best out of all of the girls, getting a score of (3-6, 4-6).

“Before the game, my shoulders were definitely sore, but I felt really consistent. I had solid shots, so I felt really prepared for the game.. In the middle of the match, I definitely felt like I was very consistent. The only thing I didn’t do was take the shots, like the hard shots so that was probably my downfall because she would hit it hard back, but I think I played well overall given my shoulder injury,” said Robinson.

Kasey Mulato, playing 3rd singles in this game was pessimistic at first, but continued to perform better than expected.

“Going into it, I thought I was gonna get bagled,(0-6, 0-6). but when we were in it, you know, we just had fun. My score was (0-6, 3-6). It was pretty good, you know, we got to a couple of deuces. but in the game, we’re just focused on having fun. Most of it’s not too competitive I’ll say,” said Mulato.

The girls kept on playing until the end in good spirit, cheering teammates on and trying their hardest. Berkeley has been one of Castro Valley’s toughest opponents and the team knew winning against them would be hard. In general, the outcome was slightly better than expected.

As of today, the girls varsity tennis team will be preparing to go against Alameda on October 29th
