Girls tie for league crown, win NCS game
The CVHS girls varsity soccer team finished its season as HAAL champion with the excellent record 18-3. After winning the first round of NCS against Arroyo, they were knocked out of the tournament by Heritage High School.
The NCS game against Arroyo was a home game. After a scoreless first half, CVHS kicked two goals, making the final score 2-0.
The game against Heritage was a close one. The Trojans scored first, but the Patriots quickly caught up in the second half, winning the game 2-1.
“The girls really came together to play as a team and I was very impressed. I couldn’t think of a better way to end my final year,” said senior Sabrina Alvaro.
The team featured some great players, including Marissa Schneider, Carolyn Gilchriese, and Kristina Utley, who has signed with University of Cincinnati for soccer.
Bishop O’Dowd is always the biggest soccer rival, and actually tied for league champions with league records of 12-1.
“Even though it was sad to lose, I’m very proud of how well we did as a team and I think we really tried our best,” Alvaro remarked.
