Bridesmaids causes laughter, tears
Bridesmaids is a witty comedy about soon-to-be bride Lillian, played by Maya Rudolph, and her five bridesmaids. Kristin Wiig stars as Annie, the increasingly unhinged bridesmaid for her best friend Lillian. The other four bridesmaids are played by Rose Byrne, Melissa McCarthy, Wendi McLendon-Covey and Ellie Kemper.
The bride-to-be Lillian goes through all sorts of mishaps and arguments with her maid of honor Annie. Their friendship also gets put to the test when Annie sees that Lillian is getting closer to her other bridesmaid, Helen.
When Annie finds out that Helen, the seemingly perfectstay-at-home housewife who has connections to everything and everyone, is giving Lillian the trip of a lifetime to Paris as a wedding present, Annie has a major meltdown.
Although the movie mainly shows interactions between women, John Hamm from Mad Men also stars in the movie. Hamm adds just enough manliness and spark to the comedy mainly centered around women and plays a self-absorbed entrepreneur who is Annie’s friend with benefits.
This movie will keep you laughing one scene after another but it also has some emotional scenes for which you might want to grab some tissues just in case. It reveals the raw emotions and struggles two best friends go through in the midst of a wedding. When Lillian sees that her wedding is getting bigger than life and was not what she had imagined it to be, she realizes the person that knows and loves her the most is her best friend and maid of honor, Annie.
The smart and amusing script will leave you smiling at the end of the film. Bridesmaids is definitely a movie worth watching if you’re in for a laugh.
