The sweet aroma of frosted cakes, fluffy donuts, and chewy cookies fills the cafeteria, while a wide-eyed crowd watches a singer perform on stage.

On Friday, Aug. 21, the CVHS choir program held an event in the school cafeteria for the alumni to sing, pairing desserts with a love for music.

“I really enjoyed the show, and how the alumni came together to help with putting on a concert to help fundraise money for the choir program. I also really liked the food, and it was pretty nice how the booths were set up,” said junior Silvia Cao.

The alumni selected the songs, which were “My Mind,” “If I Die,” “He Can Only Hold Her,” “El Triste,” “I’m Not Afraid of Anything,” ”How Deep is Your Love,” “A Change Gonna Come,” and “Tennessee Whiskey.”

Alumni who performed were Lillyanna Klepatsky, Kino Caliwag, Cole Sanders III, Jose Lopez Solano, Jahzara Jones, Ethan Alfonso, Kayla Cunningham, and Andre Juntilla.

Kaylyn To, a junior choir student, said, “My favorite performance was “My Mind” sung by Lily Klepatsky. I think this event always goes well. It had good desserts and a good show with alumni who love coming back to perform. I also think that all the work put into this by the current choir program and returning alumni is amazing.”

The choir program is an elective that brings people together and empowers them to learn confidence and find talent through their voice and singing on stage. Laryssa Sadoway directs the CVHS choir program while pianist Allier Manahan accompanies the group. The choir has various ensembles such as Vocal Ensemble, La Cavatina, A Capella, and Madrigals.

The program is famous for its POPS Concerts, which are led by students and feature pop songs chosen by the students. Aside from POPS, the choir program hosts other concerts and performances. One of the upcoming performances is the Choir Cabaret, showcasing musical theater songs with auditioned singers held in the CVHS cafeteria on Oct. 2.
