Olympian seeks issues for archive

Castro Valley High School’s newspaper now boasts an online archive of more than 200 issues dating back to 1958, a unique trove of local history available to the public for free.

We at The Olympian (formerly known as The Achaean) would like to expand the archive even more. To that end, we’re asking community members to check their garages and cellars for back issues missing from our online collection.

The archive is nearly complete from 2000 to the present, missing only these five issues: May 14, 2004, June 4, 2004, Graduation 2004, Dec. 3, 2004 and Graduation 2006.

Bigger holes are found in preceding decades. The archive lacks nearly all 1990s issues, about half of the 1980s run, most of the 1970s, nearly all of the 1960s and some editions from the 1950s.

Community members with newspapers to loan can send them to The Olympian at Castro Valley High School, 19400 Santa Maria Ave., Castro Valley 94546.

The CVHS journalism class will take good care of the issues, copy them and return them shortly.
