Boys tennis team takes over the court

The CVHS boys varsity team practiced hard in preparation for this season and hastily won their first home match against Arroyo on March 10. The boys won most of their matches. They lost one lost match against a grueling opponent. The final score was 6-1.

Coach Ebone Taylor praised the team for their hard work and dedication. She has high hopes for their play on the courts because of the fierce selection during tryouts. “These boys have prepared immensely both in season and off-season, so I think they’re going to win the majority of matches,” she said,

During the matches, it seemed like the Trojans had the upper hand.

“Anson Chan has gotten quite a few aces playing doubles,” Taylor said, pleased with his serves.

The players also seemed content with how they played. In most sets, the opponent was only able to score one or two points.

Matthew Rodriguez gave the opponent a tough fight; the opponent got shut out. His first set was 6-4, and his second set was 6-0.

“It was good, I stayed consistent and ended up with a good result. Arroyo was good. I need to hit my first serves more often, though,” Rodriguez said, looking to improve despite his win.

Calvin Larudee also gave the opponent a hard time winning both his sets. His first set was 6-1 and his second was 6-2.

“I played a very solid, consistent home game, made errors, and bounced back. The opponent was good, had some very good hits, but in the end; I was able to beat him. I’m proud of how we did today as a team,” Larudee said.

“They fought very well, it was very hot, they gave it their all, I’m proud. I’m glad about the improvement of the returnees,” Taylor concluded after the matches ended.

The boys varsity team will be preparing for the next home game against Hayward on March 19.
