CVHS Varsity has their first triumph of this year’s season
The boys soccer team started off the 24-25 season strong at Trojan Stadium on Dec. 3 with a victory against American High School. The Trojans defeated the Eagles by 3-0, cheered on by the JV and varsity girls teams in the stands.
The first half kicked off with Trojans Angel Bravo, Saulius Staraitis, and Jordan Bravo creating a foundation for three goals by the end of the game.
About 20 minutes into the first half, the crowd was electric as Staraitis scored the first of many on the Eagles’ goalie Soham Dogra.
The Trojans battled against the Eagles until halftime with an attempted goal from Ian Hsu by penalty kick which missed.
As the boys warmed up, the crowd, parents, and girls were pumped, encouraging the team into the next half. Ten minutes into the second half, Angel Martinez was subbed in for Staraitis and scored the Trojans’ second goal, making the score 2-0.
The Trojans did not let any forward get past them with the defensive wall made by Calvin Larudee, Ebenezer Mahteme, and Hsu. The Eagles attempted one goal throughout the game, but goalie Eddy Ho made the save.
With only a couple of minutes left on the board, Jordan Bravo scored the third goal for the Trojans. Teammates rallied and celebrated as the crowd went wild.
“It was a happy moment for me not only because it was a goal but because it was our first game of the season,” said Jordan Bravo.
Hsu and Bolender were awarded the title of captains for this year’s season, following their successful 23-24 varsity season. They both plan on achieving milestones during this year’s season.
“This year I plan on making NCS with my teams and I believe we can do so but also having fun and building a family in the process,” said Bolender.
“I want to make a deep run in NCS with our strong quad this year. I believe we can get it done,” shared Hsu.
