Trojans make resurgence against Berkeley Jackets

The Trojans made a resurgence against the Jackets in their home game tennis match with Berkeley High on April 19, winning two out of four singles matches and making it to tie-breaking rounds in doubles matches.

Team captain Ethan Fang won his first set, 6-3, in #1 singles and clenched his victory in the second set, 6-4. In addition, his teammate Andrew Lottich won at #2 singles, making it to three sets and winning in the third set tiebreaker, 10-5.

“Yesterday’s match was really a challenge of mental strength for me as I was having trouble focusing with a small knee injury. I’m happy to have found a way to win my match in the end,” said Fang.

The previous match against the Jackets, taking place on March 16 in Berkeley, held adverse results, with Trojans losing 6-1. For this match, however, Fang sees growth in his team.

“Last time when we played Berkeley, we were missing many of our top players in the lineup,” Fang explained. ”One or two missing players can really make a huge difference when it creates unexpected shifts. With the added security of our top players yesterday, many of the matches were much closer going to three sets, and I really think [each] match could’ve gone either way.”

The Trojans will face off against Piedmont High on April 21, as well as a lineup of matches throughout the rest of April, including the West Alameda County Conference (WAAC) at Chabot college on April 29 and 30.

“For the WACC individual tournament, I know CV will do well. I’m not too sure of the exact people/pairs going to compete in the tournament yet, but I think we have a chance of sending a couple players to NCS [North Coast Section] in May,” Fang noted.

“I hope for the remaining matches that our team ends off the season strong with high morale. I know we can win the remaining matches, we just have to put in our best effort and keep fighting,” Fang continued.

Overall I’m not too involved or kept up to date with our sports teams, but maybe I should look more into what’s going on with them. They seem to be getting better this year and I’m hoping that that trend continues into next year. To be fair for all I know our tennis team has always been pretty good given the fact that I don’t pay much attention to them. Nonetheless, congratulations on the win against what sounds like a pretty tough team.
