Trojans lose a close game

CVHS lost to the Liberty High School Lions on March 21. The game was very close for the first five innings, with Liberty leading 3 to 2. Unfortunately, the Trojans allowed four runs in the sixth before eventually losing the game 7 to 3.

The Trojans had some stand-out plays and players, most notably Gilbert Seidel going three for four and getting an RBI. Braden Spade also displayed impressive base running by scoring runs both the times he made it to base.

The Trojans had the first run of the game when Spade scored in the first inning. At this point, pitcher Owen Seidel was having a great game, allowing few batters on base and not allowing any runs. The game would go scoreless until Liberty scored at the top of the third inning. The Trojans would rally back when Aidan Hackbarth drew a walk to get on base and scored a run.

This would be followed by a Trojans’ nightmare inning with a pitcher change and four runs being allowed to the Lions. The Trojans’ biggest flaw in pitching was a lack of control. Although they allowed seven runs, they only had five hits to the Trojans’ seven hits; Liberty still generated more runs and got on base more because they drew an additional seven walks to Castro Valley’s three.

This loss, however, is temporary, and the Trojans’ trajectory in previous games where CVHS was five wins and two losses with a positive 38 run differential due to three double-digit wins. Looking past this temporary game, the Trojans are in a very good position as long as they can avoid control issues in future games.
