CVHS wraps up 3 on 3 basketball tournament
CVHS students fight against each other to determine who’s the greatest at the CVHS 3v3 basketball tournament from March 17 to March 21. Making it to the finals, teams LeBron and Aydenplaysball battle for victory. With the score ending with 11-7, team Lebron takes the win, the three boys celebrating as they collect their trophy.
David Colon, Javon Johnson, and Laquan Thomas teamed up together forming Lebron, a team that brought their all until the very end.
“We should’ve won from the start. We came into the tournament like we should have won, and exited as winners,” said Johnson.
Teams of three competed in a basketball tournament that took place at the main gym every lunch for a week starting March 17. The first team to make it to ten points wins the match, advancing to the next day.
Within the groups of three, they could only have at least one player from the CVHS basketball team.
Semifinals and finals began on the final day of the tournament, March 21.
Four teams took the court at the start of the lunch break because they had all won their matches previously as the semifinals were taking place.
Playing half-court games, one team went against another. And on the other side, the remaining two teams fought to be the winner.
Once one of the teams reached 7 points, they had won that game.
As two games went on at the same time, Trojans were on the edge of their seats. Heads turned to take a peek at the other game as cheers erupted from the bleachers.
The winning team on each side of the court would decide who advanced to the finals.
Teams LeBron and Aydenplaysball defeated their opponents and moved forward to the finale not long after.
The first team to reach 11 points determines who wins the week-long tournament.
With good defense and offense, both teams played to the best of their abilities.
The game lasted for 16 minutes, and Johnson scored the winning point by shooting a layup.
“It ain’t nothin’–it’s just the usual. I feel like my team carried,” said Thomas.
