Girls varsity tennis team squashed by Piedmont

After a solid start to the season, the girls varsity tennis team suffered a huge loss against Piedmont with a 0-7 score on Sept. 19.

This was a rough game for the girls varsity tennis team since Piedmont has been beating CVHS consistently for years on end. Piedmont is reportedly one of the best teams all around.

Most games went by quickly, with Alexandra Hurka’s first singles match ending first around 30-40 minutes into the competition. The last doubles teams were also beaten pretty quickly by Piedmont. The only game that lasted until the very end was Kasey Mulato’s second doubles match.

Mulato’s match was hard fought and stressful with the sets being closer than ever. Her game lasted for around one and a half hours.

“My match went pretty well in the beginning. We went to overtime and 7-5 so I lost the first set. My serves were going really well today. I don’t think I double faulted more than once,” said Mulato after her set ended. “Overall, I think we played really well together. She was a great matchup for me and that was a really good game.”

Playing first doubles, Laina Zhang and Clarrissa Sun tried their best but ended up losing both of their sets 1-6 1-6.

“Though I didn’t play my best, the competition was strong today and we are still starting off the season pretty well. I have confidence in our team for the next match,” stated Zhang after her game. “I was not locked in.”

The girls varsity tennis team looks forward to an upcoming match against Arroyo on Oct. 1.
