CVHS tennis power siblings

Two CVHS siblings are making history on the tennis court.

Sophomore Rachel Dong, a member of the girls tennis team, reached the North Coast Section (NCS) quarterfinals. The last time CVHS had a tennis player go to NCS was in 2008, seven years ago. She has also won the All League First Team honors.

Spencer Dong, her older brother and a senior senior, has also accomplished amazing feats. Dong and his team went on to take third place overall in the whole nation with his 18s coed team, the Burgos. They lost a tough semi-finals game against the first place winners, Texas, by a score of 60-27. After that the Burgos still kept their heads up and were optimistic enough to be able to battle it out against Tennessee, who were champions in the past, and beat them 49-42 to obtain the bronze medal.

Rachel got the love of tennis from her dad who showed both her and Spencer the beautiful but competitive game of tennis. “ My dad has been into it so he brought it onto us,” said Rachel.

She hopes to continue playing tennis and keep on having more remarkable seasons like the one she has had this season with making NCS.

“I would like to play college tennis, hopefully through a scholarship,” said Rachel.

Spencer Dong has been working hard at tennis for ten years of his life and he loves every single second of it since it’s a great sport that you can play all the way until you are in your late years.

“ I found out that I really loved tennis when i began to see that it encapsulated my world. That included my friends, family, and teammates,” Spencer said. “My favorite part about tennis is that it’s a lifetime sport. It can be played on all walks of life, while bringing friendships and competition together!’’

When the siblings were asked who would win if they were to face each other they agreed that Rachel would win over Spencer because of her natural talent and Spencer could maybe pull out a win if he has a good day.

Tennis has been a part of the Dongs’ lives ever since they were little and they hope to continue it for a long time.
